A wedding is something that is one of the most important experiences of a lifetime. That is why it is so important to make sure that it is as perfect and magical as possible!   There are so many ideas on how to create this experience. What you want is a ceremony that you and your guests will look back on and talk about how magical it was! No two weddings are the same, but there are some things that are necessary to keep in mind. Carefully choosing different aspects can assure you that your wedding is one that your friends and family will always remember, and for the right reasons. 

Get creative! Be excited about your plans. I am known for creating fun and magical ceremonies. I love when couples get creative and express themselves in themed weddings and elements! 

First And Foremost, Choose The Right Officiant! 

The wedding ceremony itself is the main event of the wedding. The officiant is someone who needs to be chosen with care. They can make or break the ceremony. This is why it is strongly recommended to get a professional.

A seasoned officiant will know how to make the ceremony flow so it makes sense. They will create an amazing personalized ceremony script just for you. 

As an officiant, I always hope that the couple will choose me, but if I am not a good fit I always offer to help them find the right officiant for them.

  • The officiant is responsible for conducting the most memorable experience for you as a couple and your audience.
  • You want to choose someone who has confidence in speaking in front of a crowd, who can handle any hiccups.
  • They need experience in filling out the marriage license.

We officiants hear many horror stories about well-meaning friends or family members who ruined the ceremony or did not fill out the marriage license correctly. You do not want to find out after the fact that the marriage license is invalid because of errors.  Interview potential officiants and find one that resonates with you and will bring your vision to light.  They can suggest ceremony ideas such as handfasting, unity elements or ceremony readings to create a personalized ceremony. This is what will be magical! 

The Venue! 

Obviously the venue is very important. Unless you are eloping and skipping the reception, it is an important part of the wedding.  A good venue will create an amazing experience for you and your guests. San Diego is chock full of wonderful venues that can offer exactly what you are looking for.  

Some of my favorite San Diego Venues:

  • Ethereal Gardens – They offer indoor and outdoor weddings, they have a beautiful foliage canopy ceremony space and offer a barn wedding location. Their grounds are beautiful with vintage dressing rooms. 
  • Los Willow Estate – This winery bed and breakfast villa is an elegant lakeside getaway that is sure to impress.
  • Bahia Resort –  This is an ideal location for that beach feel without being on the open ocean. I love being a preferred vendor for this venue. 

If a venue is not your jam, San Diego has unlimited outdoor and beach locations. Most of my couples like the idea of renting an AirBnB on the ocean, walking down and having their ceremony right on the ocean. Carlsbad provides many opportunities for this. Another favorite for a quick ceremony is Solana Beach. Parking is close and it is not as populated as the other beaches. I normally meet couples at the parking lot and we walk until we find that perfect spot with the ocean as an amazing backdrop. 

San Diego Breweries have become very popular recently and most offer event options. These are so much fun!  32 North is a wonderful venue with indoor or outdoor options.

Find an amazing photographer to capture your moments. Even elopements should have a pro capture the special moment when you become married. This is not something to skip! I can offer some names that I have worked with in the past. 

If you can, hiring a planner or coordinator can help take the stress off. They are worth their weight in gold!
